Meet the Team

Mary Beth Ackerman, CEO, PT, CIMT

Mary Beth graduated from the University of Montana Physical Therapy Program with high honors in 1997. She the CEO of PhysioCare, is a certified pre/post-natal exercise consultant, and a Certified Integrated Manual Therapist.

She has worked in a variety of settings, including acute patient care, skilled nursing facilities, a continence center, and outpatient. Her professional interests include sport and spine rehabilitation, gait/movement analysis, custom orthotics, the tri-athlete client, and women’s health issues.

Mary Beth grew up in Alaska, and after school in Montana she moved to Pueblo, CO to work at a hospital there. She transferred to Seattle in 2001 to be closer to family and return to water and green surroundings. She enjoys taking in local sporting events and scuba diving in both local and tropical destinations. She has also competed in various distance triathlons to stay active and help her understand the finer points of cross-training. Her triathlon experience ranges from sprint triathlons to full Ironman events.

Her treatment philosophy focuses on looking at the person as a whole. It takes many pieces of the puzzle put together to find a treatment designed for each individual. Understanding that people have very busy lifestyles, she incorporates a “quick and easy” home program as well as other small functional changes that will improve her patient’s quality of life.

Amber Swedberg, PT, DPT, ATC

Amber became interested in the field of physical therapy after a gymnastics injury at age 13.  Her interest in teaching, anatomy, physiology and sports rehabilitation led her to study Athletic Training at Western Washington University before earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Washington.

As a wife and mom, Amber appreciates the family-centered work environment at PhysioCare. She also loves empowering her patients through education about how best to heal their bodies.

In her free time, Amber enjoys skiing, hiking, photography and baking. She travels to places with mountains or water, and her two favorite vacation spots are the Greek islands and New Zealand.

Louis Garcia, PT, DPT

Louis was born and raised in Los Angeles and spent 5 years in the Philippines studying in the Physical Therapy Program at Mariano Marcos State University. After completing his Orthopedic Residency with EIM, his focus includes primarily orthopedic care with interest in sports rehab and neuromuscular approaches for evaluating and managing musculoskeletal pain syndromes.

With a passion for all things active, he primarily focuses his treatment plan on movement based activities. In the everchanging profession of Physical Therapy, he continues towards providing Evidence-Based Practice to optimize care for all patients. In his free time, you can catching training for amateur boxing or playing table top games.

Julia Messner, PT, DPT

A lover of movement and helping people, Julia studied physical therapy in her home country of Austria and graduated in 2010. She is certified in Vojta therapy and clinical interests include women’s health and manual therapy.

Julia loves spending 1:1 time with her patients, getting to know them and helping them reach their functional goals.

Julia keeps moving by hiking, running, camping and spending time in the mountains. She has lived in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Vienna, and Sammamish, but her favorite vacation spot is Alaska. Fun fact: She has a pet snake!

“The mountains are calling and I must go.” – John Muir

Rachel Jozic, PTA

Rachel had a specific goal when she chose to become a Physical Therapist Assistant: help people return to something they love.  She loves the challenges that come with this goal, connecting with her patients and working with people from all different backgrounds.  Certified in the LSVT Big method, Rachel has a specific interest in treating people who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. She is also an NCSF-certified Personal Trainer.

Rachel is a graduate of Flagler College in Florida (BA in Psychology) and Whatcom Community College (AA - Physical Therapy Assistant). An avid runner, she has run in 38 states and 8 countries! When she’s not traveling or pounding the pavement, you might find her paddleboarding, hiking or wine tasting.

“Onward and upward.”
“Shoot for the moon and even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

Ashley Smith, LMT

A graduate of Utah College of Massage Therapy, Ashley chose a career in massage therapy because she values the one-on-one interactions with her patients. She loves the unique opportunities and challenges each patient provides, and the feeling of helping others heal.

In her free time, Ashley enjoys helping her brother write songs, photography and being home with her two dogs and cat. She is passionate about cooking and could make Italian food every day! Ashley also kayaks, swims and snorkels so her favorite vacation spots are warm beaches, especially Pearl Islands in Panama.
